Directing: Nandita Shenoy's Baby Camp for Miami of Ohio

In March 2021, Jenny directed the new play BABY CAMP by Nandita Shenoy as part of Miami University Theatre’s Digital Reading Series.

DIRECTOR’S NOTE: “Collaborating with Nandita Shenoy has been one of the most consistent–and consistently enjoyable–aspects of my career as a theater-maker since we met at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival ten years ago. Nandita’s plays are never heavy handed or overly-didactic, but use comedy as a tool to open hearts and minds. Often the most radical act in her plays is her insistence on writing a world that looks like our own—a world populated by black and brown people who have complex lives filled with humor, pain, love, and loss. Baby Camp is a direct response to the infuriating (and seemingly never-ending) quest to limit women’s bodily autonomy, but in true Shenoy fashion she finds a way to address this issue with fresh insight and side-splitting humor.” — Jenny Mercein

Playwright Nandita Shenoy talks about her inspiration for writing 'Baby Camp,' included in the Miami University Department of Theatre's 2021 Digital Reading Series.
